History of the institution

St. Teresa’s T.T.I is a premier teacher training institute in Kerala. It is located at Mathumoola in Changanacherry. This government aided, “ Girls only ” school is only 17 Kms away from its district headquarters, Kottayam. This is the one and only teacher training school under the Corporate Management of Schools, ArchDiocese of Changanacherry.

St.Teresa’sT . T. I. has a 98 years old tradition and expertise in Teacher training. The school became a reality because of the foresightedness and constant efforts invested by the ArchBishop of Changanacherry, Blessed Mar Thomas Kurialassery. A great humanitarian and visionary, Mar Thomas Kurialassery also happen to be the inspirational presence in the foundation of the SABS Congregation. He was given ardent support from Mother Chanthal, who was the co - foundress of the school. Mother Chanthal was so much inspired and moved by the social and spiritual activities of the Spanish Reformist Saint, St. Teresa of Avila that Mother Chanthal chosen her favourite Saint’s name to address this institution.

The school had its initiation on 30 October, 1919. Sri P.I. Chandy B. A, B.L. was the first Headmaster. In a society where education and equality of women was not accepted by all, the services of St. Teresa’s T.T.I was really a leap in the time. In 1963, the school shifted to the new building and turned into a fully independent body. In 2007 , the school again shifted to a state - of the - art building with full - fledged infra- structural facilities.

Now , the training school is enjoying endless pleasure in having a Saint’s name in its previous rolls . St. Alphonsa was a student of this training school in the year 1931. At present, the school is having 80 students (1 & 2 year) in its rolls, 4 teachers including the Principal and 3 nonteaching staff.

This is accomplished by providing quality education in a contemporary learning environment focusing on holistic development of teacher trainees, empowering them with lifelong teaching skills, nurturing compassion and respect for each other.
